Fertility Testing
We can perform complete examinations of the reproductive organs, as well as a physical examination to determine overall health, fertility or infertility, and the likeliness of successful reproduction.
Overview
With advanced equipment and progressive methodology, we are committed to providing the best possible reproductive care for your pet. Every test and decision is customized to the specific needs of your pet so that they can reproduce successfully and live out their happy, healthy life.
Why would my pet need fertility testing?
If you are planning on breeding your pet, fertility testing and soundness exams prior to pregnancy are recommended. Along with physical examinations, other veterinary tests such as ultrasound, culture, cytology, and biopsies may be performed as well to determine fertility or infertility. These exams identify genetic abnormalities or problems in the animal that could cause complications when reproducing.
When should my pet get tested?
If you are planning on breeding your pet, make an appointment with our veterinarians for a pre-mating exam. This initial exam will provide baseline information on the health of your pet and their ability to provide offspring. Male testing is typically more frequent and extensive than female testing and our doctors will help determine an appropriate health plan for your pet.
How will my pet be tested for fertility?
Male fertility testing involves the evaluation of your pet's reproductive potential, including general physical examination and inspection of the genital organs, mating ability and libido, and assessment of sperm production and quality. Semen evaluation must be conducted to determine fertility.
Female fertility testing starts with a thorough physical exam and review of your pet's medical history. Screenings for hereditary conditions should be conducted to identify any genetic abnormalities. We will also perform general vaginal exams and may administer appropriate vaccinations to ensure your pet is healthy enough for pregnancy.
