Animal Medical Center of Mt. Pleasant
We always recommend all our potential clients go through a methimazole trial prior to being referred to the clinic. The purpose of this is to see if the patient responds to medication and successfully suppresses the thyroid. It can also show us if there are other underlying conditions. Each patient should be medicated for 4 weeks and at the end of that period run full bloodwork (minimum CBC, Chemistry, T4). This will provide us with the most information to better predict the outcome of the patient's treatment. I-131 treatment does not turn over the patients care to us. We are responsible for the treatment portion only. Any results, further diagnostics, follow ups, and treatment of other kinds is up to the referring veterinarian. 30 and 90 day post bloodwork is to ensure the treatment was successful.
